Go to Next Island Chain North

This section, immediately south of the preceding section allows several diversions, including side trips up the Sebastian River on the mainland side and Sebastian Inlet State Park. The Sebastian River offers two routes, the North Prong and the South Prong. The North Prong takes you to the Sebastian River State Preserve, where a canoe dock allows you to get out and sample the preserves many hiking trails, while the South Prong offers a great paddle in itself and also camping at Donald McDonald Park immediately adjacient to Dale Wimbrow Park.

Sebastian Inlet State Park offers great fishing, camping, snorkeling, and surfing (assuming you carried a surfboard in your kayak) as well as a chance to shower, and replenish the H2O supplies. Another Idea is to make a stop at Captain Hirams just inshore of IR-3 on the mainland for great food, nightlife, and live entertainment on the deck overlooking the Indian River Lagoon. In fact you can rent a room for a night or two there to recharge your batteries before continuing your kayak camping journey with the knowlege that your kayaks are under 24 hour locked and video security.
