Nice Pompano courtesy of J&H Surf FishingSurf Fishing along Florida's Space Coast can mean many things. From Summer Whiting along the inside trough, to Pompano cruising the outer bar, to Tarpon, Snook, Sharks, and Jacks chasing the mullet run, to catching Margate, Sheepshead, and Black Drum along the Coquina Ridges. It can mean casting pyramid weighted rigs on long rods to casting spoons for Spanish Mackerel and Blues, to flycasting for Snook in the early light of dawn.
Back to the "Mullet Run". Each Fall towards the end of September until about November comes the annual fall migration of mullet, or the "Mullet Run" as thousands of mullet and other baitfish move south from their northern summer grounds to warmer climates south. During this time they move along our coast both along the beaches and within the lagoon, bring larger gamefish with them. This is usually some of the most exciting fishing of the year along Space Coast Beaches where Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel, Tarpon, Redfish, Snook and Sharks can commonly be seen busting the baitfish schools on the surface and anglers throwing artificials such as surface chuging plugs and other artificials off our beaches can experience great fishing.
