Go to Next Island Chain North

This section of islands beginning just South of the Sebastian Inlet and Sebastian River area provides the opportunity to explore the Turtle Pen Slough area on the beachside of the lagoon as well as make a day trip to Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge, our nation's first wildlife refuge established in 1904 by President Theodore Roosevelt to provide protection for Egrets and Herons, which at the time were being shot in huge numbers to provide plumage for ladies hats.

IR-14 is the closest island that allows camping to the refuge. Just to the south is the Wabasso Causeway and Wabasso Causeway Park for take out or put in.
